Christmas in July

This Stamping with Friends Blog Hop theme is Christmas in July, I had to use my favourite from the new July-December 2022 mini catalogue. I grew up on a farm that was my grandparents’ homestead so anything farm related as long as it is a realistic image, I am all over it! The Christmas Barn Bundle was the first one that caught my eye and I had to have it. Then since I am a funfold gal, I worked on coming up with something to suit the set. I decided to create a tri-fold with the front two looking like barn doors. I call this the

Christmas Barn Funfold

 

It is a card showing barn doors when the card is closed, see top, opened shows a barn scene and includes a belly band to keep it closed so when you slip it off, the surprise is revealed.

Measurements

Soft Suede 11”x4.25” scored at 2.75” from each end of length

Plus extra pieces for stamping, embossing and die-cutting

Basic White 2.5”x4” (2 pieces)

Basic White 1” x 4 “ for fence die cut backed with same size Adhesive Sheet

Plus extra Basic White for stamping and die-cutting

DSP 4”x5.25” for inside and 1”x12” for belly band

Cherry Cobbler pieces for stamping, embossing and die-cutting

Crumb Cake scraps for stamping and die-cutting inside tree

 

Instructions:

 

Step 1: Prepare card base by cutting and scoring. Valley fold the two ends so they meet at the front of the card in the middle. Be sure to score so they fit together and do not reveal the inside.

 

Step 2: Fit each end into the cut and emboss machine with the Timber Embossing Folder with the Stampin’ Up image at the front and run through the machine so that both sides are embossed.

Step 3: Using the blending brush and the Whisper White inkpad, brush over the embossed front pieces to give it a more weathered look.

 

Step 4: Glue the larger piece of dsp to the inside middle panel and the two Basic White pieces of cardstock to the inside flaps.

 

Step 5: Stamp the Barn image in Versamark on the Cherry Cobbler cardstock and emboss with the white embossing powder. Die cut and glue to the dsp toward the bottom but leaving enough room for the fence.

 

Step 6: Die cut the silo out of Cherry Cobbler cardstock and glue beside the barn.

 

Step 7: Stamp one tree onto a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock with Evening Evergreen ink and die cut. Adhere tree to dsp tucking it slightly in behind barn.

 

Step 8: Place a 1”x4” strip of adhesive sheet to the back of the same size piece of Basic White cardstock and die cut fence. Adhere fence to the bottom section of the barn image.

 

Step 9: Die cut the sign from Soft Suede cardstock and adhere to the first inside piece of Basic White cardstock.

 

Step 10: Stamp the Merry Christmas greeting onto Basic White cardstock using Cherry Cobbler ink and die cut. Adhere to top of inside middle piece.

Your inside is now done!

 

Step 11: Stamp the wreath and the May Joy stamp set onto Basic White cardstock using Cherry Cobbler Ink. Stamp the tree onto Basic White with Evening Evergreen ink. Die cut all three and adhere the wreath and greeting using dimensionals and glue the tree under the wreath with enough room to attach an Iridescent Rhinestones Basic Jewel. Add another jewel inside wreath and inside the O of Joy.

 

Step 12: Stamp the fence onto Soft Suede cardstock (you could use Crumb Cake if you wish a bit of contrast – I liked the Soft Suede as it does not show up background of the fence – it just looks like snowy fence) with Versamark and heat emboss with white embossing powder. Die cut fence and glue to front.

 

Step 13: Insert about a 4” piece of linen thread through a Flat Jingle Bell Trinket and tie a bow. Attach to the front of card close to the door opening using Glue Dots at the top behind the bow and at the end behind the bell. Now your front is complete.

 

Step 14: To prepare the belly band, take the 1”x12” piece of dsp and fold around the card so the ends are behind the card. I like to do this rather than score it as it gives a smoother fit. Glue the ends of the strip together. Remove the strip to finish it.

 

Step 15: Stamp the horse and sleigh image onto Soft Suede cardstock using Versamark ink. Heat emboss with white embossing powder. Die cut.

 

Step 16: Die cut the piece of snow from Basic White cardstock. Stamp each end with the track looking stamp using Soft Suede ink. I stamped the one side of the stamp on one end of the die cut and then stamped the other side of the stamp to the other end of the die cut without reinking between. I left the middle of the die cut white to better show the snow but the ends then look like the trail the horse and sleigh left behind and the trail they are following.

 

Step 17. Glue the horse and sleigh piece on top of the snow piece and then use dimensionals to adhere it to the front of the dsp for the belly band. And you are all done except for stamping an envelope (I used the tree image but several of the images would work), writing your message, inserting card into envelope and mailing it! You might want to wait a month or two before mailing so you are closer to Christmas but at least you have one card done!
